How to Join Casual Football Games in Lisbon (No Team Needed)

2026-06-10

Finding a football game in a new city used to mean knowing someone who knows someone. You needed a friend with a group chat, a club with tryouts, or the luck of walking past a pitch at the right moment. In Lisbon, that is no longer the case — casual, pay-per-game football has made it possible to play within days of arriving.

This guide explains exactly how it works with Footballers: how to book, what it costs, what to bring, and what your first game will feel like.

Step 1: Pick a game

All upcoming games are listed on the homepage, grouped by day. Each listing shows the venue, kick-off time, price and how many spots are left. We play across Lisbon — Campo Pequeno, Alvalade, Belém, Cidade Universitária and more — so there is usually a pitch near you.

Games are small-sided: mostly 5v5 and 7v7, played on synthetic turf. They run all week, with evening kick-offs after work and morning games on weekends.

Step 2: Book your spot

You book as an individual — no team required. Add your spot to the cart and pay online by card, or use wallet credits if you play often. Prices start around €5.20 per game. Your spot is confirmed the moment the payment goes through.

If a game is full, you can join the waiting list for free. When someone cancels, waiting-list players are moved into the game automatically, in order.

Step 3: Show up and play

Each game has a captain who brings the ball and bibs and balances the teams on the spot, so games stay competitive and fun regardless of who turns up. You just need sports clothes, water and turf shoes — the pitches are synthetic grass, so flat-soled turf trainers work much better than blades or studs.

All levels are genuinely welcome. The community is a mix of locals, expats and travellers, and the atmosphere is fair-play first: the rules on conduct are strict and enforced.

What if your plans change?

Cancelling more than 20 hours before kick-off is free. Closer to the game, fees apply (€1 between 12–20 hours, 50% between 4–12 hours, no refund under 4 hours) — that protects the other nine players counting on a full game. And if the game itself is cancelled, for weather or low numbers, everyone gets a full refund automatically.

That is the whole process. Pick a game this week, book a spot, and you will have played football in Lisbon before you have finished unpacking.
